Programs Created & Executed By Civic Source
Here are a few examples of programs we can provide and client experiences —please call or e-mail to discuss your unique needs and interests.
|Leadership Study Missions
Civic Source has partnered with a number of cities and organizations to plan and execute leadership study visits. These study visits enable leaders working through a community or development issue to see firsthand how other communities have tackled similar subjects. These programs are entirely customizable and reap immense benefits as community leaders better understand potential options and solutions.
|“Wendy has been such a valuable resource to our organization this year in a time of staff transition. Her expertise, insight, connections and understanding of the impact of this work has really helped take our 25th anniversary Leadership Study Mission to the next level!” – Tara Moore, CMP Director, Events and Sponsorship Fulfillment
Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce
|InterCity Leadership Visit (ICLV)
Civic Source can design a custom InterCity Leadership Visit for a community or organization to learn about a selected city’s challenges and achievements. An InterCity Leadership Visit highlights host-city innovation and assists visiting community leaders in considering new solutions for their own communities. Civic Source has conducted 14 successful trips for the Minneapolis Regional and Saint Paul Area Chambers of Commerce to communities like Denver, Seattle, Boston, Dallas, Toronto, Atlanta, Charlotte, Austin TX, Portland, Phoenix, San Francisco and Baltimore.
|“We have led very successful ICLV trips for 15 years. One of the primary reasons for that success has been our decision to hire the expertise of Wendy Helgeson and the Civic Source group. Their experience, knowledge and willingness to ‘go the extra mile,’ has ensured that our agendas will be relevant and robust and our participants well cared for.” –
Todd Klingel, President & CEO Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce
|Generation Now Leadership Visit
Civic Source can also target emerging leaders. One example of our work in this area is with the Citizens League Generation Now Leadership Visit — a 3-day road trip for emerging leaders to learn about critical civic issues.
A leadership visit fosters networking and creative thinking about how to address community issues. In this instance, a bus trip to an out-state community provides a unique environment for delegates to develop cross-sector relationships and engage in discussions with passionate leaders from other communities who are addressing community issues.
|“Wendy is a very organized, but at the same time she is a very creative person. She is passionate about helping the community around her. She has a unique ability to help other people develop their strengths and find ways to get connected to get things done. Wendy is also a lot of fun to work with. She knows how to create a productive but still enjoyable environment.” – Brian Lucas, Senior Director of Communications at University of Minnesota Academic Health Center
Minneapolis-Saint Paul can be a difficult community to establish connections, particularly for diverse professionals. The Partnership was initiated by Meet Minneapolis, hosted by the Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce and facilitated by Civic Source. This community orientation program provides a peer network for professionals of color who recently relocated to Minneapolis-Saint Paul. Participants meet other community and business leaders, learn about the region and develop a personal and professional network of peers. Providing direct connections to their peers, civic leaders and cultural assets helps ensure these talented executives remain in our community.
|“Wendy is detailed strategic thinker but at the same time she is very congenial and engaging. We have worked together with the Advisory Board of the Minneapolis Regional Chamber’s The Partnership: Creating Connections for Professionals of Color and Wendy listens intently and is solutions oriented.”
– Marsha Pitts-Phillips, Director of Media Relations at Greater Twin Cities United Way
|Leadership Twin Cities
This community orientation has been provided by the Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce for nearly 40 years, and can be created for other communities, too. Each year 55 chamber members are selected to participate in a nine-month program to learn more about civic issues important to the success of their employer and their career. Wendy managed this program for 12 years, including recruiting, selecting and supporting all participants. She also directed the 40-person alumni committee in the planning and implementation of all curriculum days focusing on topics such as Metropolitan Issues, Community Safety, and Education.
|“I had the privilege of participating in the Leadership Twin Cities program through the Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce. Under Wendy’s leadership, we were given amazing access to community leaders and resources. Each class day has been incredibly well-organized and dynamic.” –
Christopher Taykalo, Marketing and Development Manager at Twin Cities Gay Men’s Chorus
